NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A HUSBAND'S LOVE

“Watching someone you love struggle with anxiety is a helpless feeling.”

There's a difference between a career and a calling. For Bill, a long and successful chapter as President of the University of Phoenix was a career he was proud of. Retirement was supposed to be the slow-down chapter. Life had other plans.

When Leslee lost her father, the grief brought something new into their home: a heavy, unpredictable anxiety. Watching someone you love struggle with a racing mind from anxiety is a helpless feeling.

Bill's always believed in natural remedies over quick fixes. He didn't reach for a prescription pad. He reached for a legal pad – endless nights on PubMed, chasing real clinical research on cannabis and adaptogens instead of marketing claims. What started as one husband's mission to bring his wife's peace of mind back became Swāez drinks.

Sometimes the most meaningful ideas don't begin in a boardroom… Sometimes they begin with love.

What you're drinking

Chosen for research. Sourced for quality.

When I formulated Calm Island, every ingredient had to earn its place through published clinical research – not because it sounded good on a label. And every ingredient had to be present in an effective dose, not a marketing dose, not a trace amount added just so it could appear on the label. We publish the exact milligrams of every ingredient – you can see them right on the can. Quality was the harder rule to keep. Take Lion's Mane: ours is grown in the United States, independently tested, and comes with Certificates of Analysis proving the active compounds are actually there at the levels stated. It runs roughly 20 times more expensive than comparable extracts available overseas. We pay it anyway – because an ingredient that doesn't contain what it claims is worse than using nothing at all. Every ingredient in Calm Island was sourced by that same standard.

What follows is a summary of the research behind each ingredient, and why I selected it.

What's in it

Four ingredients. One reason each.

Fresh Lion's Mane mushroom on warm linen
2,250mg

Lion's Mane Extract

36:1 Dual Extract · Whole Fruiting Body

A white, shaggy mushroom used in traditional wellness for centuries – and now one of the most studied fungi for brain health. Each can delivers 62.5mg of a 36:1 dual extract made from whole fruiting bodies, equivalent to 2,250mg of fresh Lion's Mane. The dual extraction process – hot water plus alcohol – captures both the water-soluble beta-glucans and the alcohol-soluble hericenones and erinacines responsible for its brain effects.

Research has found it stimulates the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) – a protein the brain uses to grow and maintain neurons. A 2023 double-blind, placebo-controlled study in healthy adults aged 18–45 found that 1,800mg daily – below the 2,250mg fresh-mushroom equivalent in each can – significantly reduced perceived stress and improved mood after just 4 weeks. A 2010 randomized controlled trial found reduced anxiety and depression scores after 4 weeks of daily use.*

What people notice: Thoughts feel less foggy. Focus comes more easily. Mental static turns down a notch.

Fresh green tea leaves and matcha on warm linen
150mg

L-Theanine

98%+ Pharmaceutical Grade

L-Theanine is found in green tea and at even higher concentrations in matcha, which is made from the same shade-grown leaves ground into powder. It's the reason a cup of green tea feels mentally calming in a way that coffee doesn't – even when both contain caffeine. Scientists identified L-Theanine as the compound responsible for that difference.

Studies using EEG have directly measured L-Theanine increasing alpha brain wave activity within 40 minutes – the same brain state associated with calm focus, creativity, and meditation.*

What people notice: Mental tension eases. Thoughts feel less rushed. Alert calm – present and functional, not sleepy.

Calm rippling water surface in warm light
200mg

GABA

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid

GABA is the brain's primary inhibitory neurotransmitter – the chemical your brain naturally produces to slow down overactive neural activity. When your mind is racing or stuck in an anxious loop, low GABA levels are often part of why.

A 2012 study in Amino Acids found oral GABA significantly reduced both psychological and physiological stress markers – cortisol, chromogranin A, and self-reported anxiety – during mentally demanding tasks. A beverage study confirmed GABA at similar doses reduced occupational fatigue and improved task accuracy.*

What people notice: The mental hamster wheel slows down. Repetitive anxious thoughts lose their grip. The next-thing-to-go-wrong feeling quiets.

Fresh lemon balm sprigs on warm linen
200mg

Lemon Balm Extract

10:1 (equiv. 2,000mg raw herb)

A member of the mint family with a centuries-long history as a calming herb. Carmelite nuns in 14th-century Paris made a lemon balm tonic for anxiety and nervous headaches. The 10:1 extract means this is ten times more concentrated than the dried herb.

Lemon Balm works primarily by inhibiting GABA transaminase – the enzyme that breaks down GABA in the brain. In plain terms: it helps your brain hold onto its own natural calming chemistry longer. A 2014 double-blind study confirmed mood and stress benefits from lemon balm delivered in a beverage – the same format as Swāez.*

What people notice: A warm, grounded steadiness. Social situations feel more comfortable. Small worries feel smaller.

Why four ingredients

They don't just stack – they multiply.

Lion's Mane supports the long-term health of your neurons. L-Theanine promotes calm focus and alpha brain wave activity. GABA is the brain's natural quieting signal. Lemon Balm slows the breakdown of GABA so it lasts longer.

The result is something hard to get from any single supplement: mental clarity and genuine calm at the same time. Not sedated. Not stimulated. Just a quieter, clearer version of yourself.

What to expect

It's not instant. That's the point.

  1. 30

    30 – 45 min

L-Theanine begins to work. Mental tension eases. Thoughts feel a little slower and clearer. If you were stressed before you opened this, that quality starts to soften.

  2. 60

    60 – 90 min

GABA and Lemon Balm join in. The calm deepens. You may notice you're more present in conversation, less reactive to small annoyances. Lion's Mane is supporting focus in the background.

  3. 2h

    2 – 4 hours

Peak window. Calm, clear, and socially comfortable. You can still think, work, and drive – this isn't impairment. It's an enhancement of your natural baseline. Many people sleep particularly well that night.

Everyone experiences this differently.

Some people notice it right away. For others it builds quietly over a few days of regular use. Either way, there's nothing artificial pushing you anywhere. These are four ingredients that have been studied for exactly this – and they work with your brain's own chemistry, not around it.

We hope you enjoy it.
